Exclusive: Sneak Preview of MyPhone v2.2 (Part 2)

As promised we are back with a few more screenshots of the next version of MyPhone. Please note that as readers of our blog, you are among the first to get a glimpse of these images as we are as always the first source on the web to publish these screenshots. Sit back and enjoy as we show you some of the best features of the next version of MyPhone Infinite.

SMS Interface

Scr000481

iPhone like SMS interface

We did tell you about the iPhone style SMS interface in our earlier post and now we are providing you with a few screenshots to drool over as you wait to get your hands on the latest version of MyPhone.

While the earlier versions of MyPhone just provided the front end enhancement for various applications, developers at MMMOOO have now successfully incorporated a SMS client which will blend perfectly with the theme of iPhone or rather MyPhone on 5800. With this new SMS interface, MyPhone is inching towards its slogan of Exceeding iPhone and we definitely love it. Its not only an interface as with other applications, its a fully functional SMS client in the sense that users can edit and send their SMS within the same interface for that extended iPhone like feel.

Other than the new SMS interface, MyPhone packs in another surprise package in the form of all new sketch pad application. Its a standalone paint like application very much similar to the “Drawing” application on N97. Check out our gallery below for a few screenshots of the iPhone like SMS interface and the all new Sketchpad application that comes along with MyPhone v2.2.

Just a few more days and you could very well be toying with this application on your 5800s. You can buy here the MyPhone Infinite latest version.

Time Machine: Free Countdown/ Stopwatch App for 5800

Posted by Isaac Wong Tuesday, July 7, 2009 0 comments

Nokia 5800 does not have an inbuilt countdown timer or stopwatch as you may know. If you feel a need for that sometimes, the timer application is here now. Time Machine is a freeware application which can be used both as countdown timer or stopwatch. The application has cool graphics as you can see in the screenshots.

Time Machine lets you count the remaining or passed time for any purpose you can think of. Alarm function is also included which will alert you when the countdown timer reaches zero. Read more »

Game Review: Solo Noble

Game-screen

Game-screen

Solo noble is the today’s game review. Remember that solo board with marbles, you used to play with during those hot summer afternoons? It used to be one of my favourite board games during my childhood and am sure most of you would identify with me.

But now, neither do I have that board nor the marbles, but I just found an application that lets me play this classic game on my 5800. Offscr Technologies are building on their reputation of offering the best applications/games for the s60 fifth editions devices with yet another adaptation of board game to a touch screen device.

Installation

For some reason this game was pulled off from Ovi store from where I had originally downloaded the game but fret not we do care about our readers and we make sure that we source them the links to the best applications/games available over the web. So we are hosting the demo version of this game and our readers can download the same from here . The installation file is around 350 Kb and as with most apps/games from Offscr Technologies, installation is simple, fast and you can start playing in no time.

nokia-5800-xpressmusic

There is a new firmware for 5800 doing rounds in the inter-circles of web since June 22. Available for a selected few product codes (maily HongKong) and the firmware version is v21.0.101 and not v31.0.15 as has been widely rumored in blogosphere, which was previously covered in our blog here.

While there has been no official changelong released by Nokia, users who have updated their firmware have reported improved browsing experience on the default symbian browser and as with every firmware update the phone is more responsive and faster with the new update. There is a marginal improvement in the camera performance as well, which has been one of the most sought after feature by most of the 5800 users, ever since it was launched. Its good to know that Nokia have finally responded to requests from 5800 users. However Kinetic scrolling continues to baffle 5800 as of now.

removed DRM protected from Music Store for Mobile Phones

"if we’re talking about easy to use and effective software, Tunebite is the clear-cut winner"

Netzwelt

My Rating: 4/5 stars (Excellent)

Overall, Tunebite is useful, but its interface and lack of features can be frustrating. That's why I give 4 out of 5 stars rating.

The songs that you can buy for instance in Nokia store or other music stores are often DRM protected. So you can´t use them on other devices.

A software like Tunebite is very helpful for customers who bought music with copy protection. Tunebite re-records the songs to remove the copy protection in a legal way.

Tunebite enables you to convert your DRM protected audio and video files into unprotected MP3, OGG, WMA,WAV,WMV,MP4 or M4V files. As long as your computer is authorized to play the protected files, the program can convert them, without breaking any of the copy protection. It uses high speed dubbing and virtual sound card drivers to record a high quality duplicate of the original. Tunebite Platinum also includes a CD burning feature to create audio CDs from your favorite songs and a ringtone creator that enables you to create ringtones for your cellphone. Other features include mobile device synchronization, normalization and support for ID3 tags and album art. The program is compatible with DRM protected files from iTunes, Windows Media and Audible.

TuneBite Premium is a flashy program that does a good job of converting music but isn’t really as good as it first appears. MP3 downloads and other music files are easy to convert, making TuneBite very useful.

But TuneBite has some weaknesses that weigh it down. It makes it look complicated when it really isn’t. But TuneBite does have some useful capabilities for syncing with MP3 players and iPods.I

One thing that catch my eyes is the Surf & Catch function , I can Download the video using Surf & Catch by just watching the video or movie from most of the broadcasting station like youtube, Dailymotion, Myspace, Bliptv, metacafe and even erotic videos, cool.. But of course it's not suitable for under age students. This is one thing I will give an A+ for it..

view this video trailer here

One advantage of TuneBite is the customer support. There are the standard email support and FAQ available if you have questions. But TuneBite also has a forum where other TuneBite users can help each other and explain how to get the most out of the program. We also appreciated the video tutorials on the TuneBite site that help you run through all the features and menus you need to use. It's a good way to familiarize yourself with the display because it is so cluttered and confusing at first.

Some official review about Tunebite.

Tunebite is the best solution to remove copy protection from music, audio books, and films & then convert it to one of 100 file formats. Since 2004, Tunebite has been mentioned and singled out for excellence in more computer trade publications than any other legal software solution that removes DRM copy protection. Tunebite legally removes the audio DRM copy protection from music & audio books by re-recording it at up to 54x the speed. With either the playback software or Tunebite, additional copyrighted music & audio book files can be copied by using the virtual CD-burner. Tunebite has one of a kind quality control with "PerfectAudio", guaranteeing error-free audio output. Tunebite turns the PC into a high-performance, Video DRM converter and ensures the synchronicity of video & audio while the copyrighted video files are played back. In the process, Tunebite legally photographs, frame by frame, the replayed, copyrighted films & saves them in the desired format. Tunebite informs you of the expected output quality of the files to be converted based on the operating system and PC performance & also warns of a loss in quality before converting files on PCs with weaker performance. The quality is also inspected during conversion. After the conversion is complete, Tunebite provides tips, in the rare event that problems do arise, to avoid such problems that may occur. Lots of extras: audio recorder for recording music from web radios (e.g. Last.fm), video recorder for video portals (e.g. Youtube) & automatically finds ID3 tags, album artwork & song lyrics. Files can be played using your own player or with Winamp, Apple iTunes or Microsoft Windows Media Player. Music can be dubbed by synching cell phones, MP3 players, Apple iPods & other portable devices. There is a generator for individual cell phone ringtones. CD burning capabilities for audio CDs, audio DVDs and MP3 CD are also included.

A comment from other user.

"Personally very satisfied with the ID3 editing function, but the output preference settings are very dazlling for newbies like me, thus I chose XXXXXsoft XXXX Converter for easy use and lower price."

How to take photos on the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music(taken from allaboutsymbian)
======================================
Most phones have cheap cameras that use a technique called "fixed focus", which means the camera lens doesn't move. This lowers the quality of photos, because the camera cannot adjust its focus to match what you're taking a picture of.

The Nokia 5800 has a better type of camera called "autofocus", which allows the lens to move and automatically focus. Photos taken with auto focus cameras are generally much better than those from fixed focus cameras.

Photos on the 5800 are at their best if you use the various camera options to their fullest. Here's a quick guide to the main icons in the camera application:

Nokia 5800 camera application

The camera button is your friend!
=========================
The 5800's camera can be switched on by pressing the camera button on the right side of the phone. Once the camera application is running, pressing the button again takes the picture.

However, that's not all. Like a standalone camera, the 5800's camera button knows how far in you've pressed it, and if you only press it part-way the camera will focus without taking the picture.

When you want to take a picture on the 5800, first make sure the subject of the picture is in the middle of the square on the screen, then press the camera button in part-way until the square turns green and bleeps, which indicates the picture is in focus. When the square is green, press the button in the rest of the way to take the actual photo.

The image options box is also your friend!
===============================
The 5800's camera has most of the settings options you'd find on a standalone camera, and a number of preset modes for various different situations. All of these options and modes can be found in the options box, by selecting the icon that looks like horizontal lines.
