onlynokia5800.blogspot.com just contacted Nokia via Email.

One of the reason is users are complaining that they are not receiving Email after few days.
I've receive their Emails just after a few hours after that.

A reply from NokiaSupport are as below:-

Concerning your enquiry, the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music does not have any known issues.
If there were any particular issue with a Nokia product, Nokia would be aware of
them and would make an official announcement for end users.

I do understand your concern and doubt with the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music.
However, I wish to assure you that all Nokia products undergo a thorough
quality assurance program with extensive research and development.
Nokia maintains the most stringent quality controls available so that
we can confidently provide one of the most reliable products in the industry.
The experience that you have encountered is certainly not typical of Nokia's
level of product quality and reliability.

I have taken the liberty, to personally send your email as feedback to our
Research and Development team for future consideration.

In regards to the firmware of the device, Nokia does not have a timeframe
on when is the release dates. This is because the latest software’s will
undergo some test to ensure it is compatible, safe and functional.

Hope the above helps to clarify your query.

Thank you for emailing Nokia

Kind regards,

Did that solve your Nokia 5800XpressMusic problems?

While circling around phones review websites and other forums, I found that "Nokia will promise an update for every 6 months" from a source.

Hope anyone could post their Nokia5800XM problems on the site so that we can contact Nokia or anyone who concern to solve your problem as well.

Nokia 5800 App Review: Eyecall

eyecallAfter being completely bowled over by qik the other day, I was hunting for a suitable app to follow up for reviewing on my 5800. Qik may be in the top of the list of coolest applications available on symbian platform today but not to be left far behind is this another cool application from the benches of eyeSight. Lets see how cool this application really is and how well it fares on our 5800s.

Installation

eyeCall is available as a paid application on the ovi store but as you guys must have realised by now, the payment option in ovi store is not working ever since it opened its floodgates to the whole world. I mean it was perfectly functional when I reviewed ovi client on 5800 when it was soft launched in a selected few countries. A few hours later when it was launched worldwide, payment option seized to work, blame it on the traffic surge! I came across this application while browsing through the ovi store and was totally drawn by its features after going through the item description. I didnt let the payment faux in ovi store deter me and found a beta version of the app on mobicreed. As you may guess, a beta application will probably be unsigned and it was indeed, prompting me to sign the app using the method described in my earlier post. Well, now I was all set to get a feel of eyeCall on my 5800.

REVIEW – NavMii 1.1.0.481 – On the Nokia 5800XM

25 05 2009

I must admit, I do like Nokia Maps, I have really got used to having some navigation software on my phone. If i’m ever lost, either in the car, or walking I know I can fire up Nokia Maps and I’ll be alright. Don’t get me wrong I love Google Maps too, but I love the turn by turn navigation that Nokia Maps gives me, the thing is Nokia Maps isn’t perfect. Not at all, the routing is fairly good to it’s credit, but I find it a bit ‘naggy’ – it’s telling me to do stuff when I don’t need to know. It can be prone to crashing, searching on it can be very hit and miss, the UI is appalling and annoyingly on the 5800 – there is no landscape mode and the ‘touch’ aspect is decidedly lacking.

I’ve spent some time with a new piece of navigation software that is available on S60 3rd and 5th Edition (also Windows Mobile), called NavMii, and i’ve been pleasantly surprised.

NavMii is Sat Nav software that has a ‘GeoFriend’ capability, meaning you can send your friend your location and their NavMii will navigate them, or vice versa. Obviously this is fairly dependant on your friends having NavMii installed. But an interesting touch never-the-less.

NavMii is available for £45.99 and this entitles you to the software, support and one years worth of updates to the software. A years licence for Nokia Maps (at time of writing) is around £52.00, so it’s cheaper than Nokia Maps, but is it better than Nokia Maps?

The short answer is yes, and i’ll explain why

In February 2009 Nokia announced the Ovi Store, kind of Nokia’s answer to Apple, Android and Blackberry. Back than the release date was May and indeed, the Ovi store made its way to our handsets.Yet, it has been launched in Germany, UK, Australia, Singapore and Ireland and works on the 5800 XpressMusic, E75 as well as on the N95. However, it is reaching more and more countries and devices in the next days. In order to download the Ovi store just refresh the ‘Download!’ application on your S60 device and download Ovi Store. From now on you can download applications, games, themes, sounds, videos and more.

Ovi Store live in Singapore, Australia, Spain and Ireland

scr000283Yeah, finally Nokia’s OVI store is now LIVE in Australia, Ireland, Singapore and Spain with phased launches in other parts of the globe. Who knows, by the time you read this post, OVI store may be up and running in your very own country. Till then, roll back and enjoy this exclusive review of OVI store on Nokia 5800.

Alarmed by the success of Apple’s App store which boasts of more than a billion application downloads in less than a year, every major smartphone company is coming up with their own App stores. RIM’s APPworld and Android’s Android Market have been roaring ever since their launches early this year. Not to be left far behind, Nokia had promised its customers its very own App store with over 20,000 items in the store on its inaugural launch. Well, Nokia has stood by its word with its launch of Ovi store today, while there is no feasible way to check with its 20,000 items (items and not applications!) claim, lets just take their word on that for the time being.

Nokia 5800 ebook: A Scandal in Bohemia

Throw a mobile device with a 3.2″ screen at 360 x 640 resolution at developers and its only natural that they come up with ebooks and ereaders for the device. Its been like 18 months since Kindle was first released in US market and the market for portable electronic readers has been gaining grounds ever since then. If you ask me, I will not bother shelling out upwards of USD 300 on ebook reader alone and would love to have an application which can bring ebook reader capabilities to my mobile phone. Fortunately for me, many developers have been working on this concept and I stumbled upon this amazing reader from Offscreen Technologies.

Nokia 5800 Widget Review - Google translator

Google translator needs no introduction and is one of the most widely used applications on internet today. I am sure am speaking for most of the geek community here, when I say that at many a times, I land on a site in foreign language, with no links for an English version. Now you don’t have to switch on a PC for your quick translation needs, for google team has come up with a google translator widget for our beloved 5800s.

Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 for Nokia 5800

Adobe Flasth Lite 3.1 is now available on Nokia 5800 (well, its been like 15 hrs since it first surfaced on internet). Prior to this, Adobe Flash updates were incorporated into firmware upgrades. This time, Adobe has decided to make this update available as an independent download. To update flash lite on your 5800, go to menu-> applications-> app. update.

scr000278scr000279App. update first appeared on Nokia 5800 in firmware v20, so you need to update your firmware, if you are running on v20 or earlier. The application update checks for updates on all the installed applications and hence very convenient to update all your applications at just one go. Its something like Windows update on your desktop and is much better than windows for this update application checks for available updates for all the installed applications. As can be seen in the screenshots to the left, there were two updates available for installed applications on my phone. It took me less than a minute to update and install both the updates over wi-fi.

Nokia 5800 App Review: Free iSMS

ismsNot happy with just the GUI of iphone on your 5800 (assuming you have installed MyPhone by MMMOOO)? Another Chinese developer has just an application to bring an iphone style interface for your SMSes. This is a free application called Free iSMS by Junni Kokuki, an independent Chinese developer who has come up with an amazing list of applications for the symbian 3rd and 5th edition devices. Free iSMS v1.02 is still in its development stage and as such, users have to sign the application on their own prior to installation.

Free iSMS v1.02 is the latest version of iSMS and can be downloaded for free from mobicreed.com. As mentioned earlier, the users need to sign this application on their own before proceeding to installation. There are several methods for signing an unsigned application but the most reliable is the one by OPDA. If you are a non Mandarin speaker, please follow the instructions from this forum post in dailymobile.se which has pictorial explanation for getting a certificate and key from OPDA. Please note that you may have to wait for around 4-5 hours to get your certificate and key after submitting your files with OPDA. Its a long procedure no doubt, but the outcome is satisfactory nevertheless. After spending like around 5-6 hours to download and sign this application, am very glad that I could get it working on my 5800.

MyPhone Exceeding iPhone v2.10 review

MyPhone Interface - Exceeding iPhone with Nokia 5800With the touch interface of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone, MMMOOO’s MyPhone software brings the graphic user interface (GUI) of Apple’s iPhone to the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. Now on version 2.10, Myphone has added new features and fixed previous performance lags. You can see a review we made of MyPhone older version here.

The MyPhone by MMMOOO sports new features such as the Sketchpad app which lets you draw freely using your finger or stylus. Think of it as a simple paint program for your Nokia 5800. The Auto-lock feature enables you to set a time for the phone to lock when you are not using it. You can choose displaying your icons in a 3 x5 or 4 x 5 array with the Alternative List Mode. If you use RSS frequently, there is an exclusive MyPhone RSS reader that looks just like the iPhone’s.

Nokia 5800 App Review: Mobjab

scr000039

If you remember well, I talked about IMPS in my earlier post. Some of you had complaints that Yamigo does not support Gtalk. That’s one of the reasons that I am writing this post about yet another free IMPS server called Mobjab.

Before I begin, lets have a recap of what IMPS is: IMPS stands for Instant Messaging and Presence Service. Nokia 5800 and most Nokia mobiles come with an inbuilt IMPS client. Now, IMPS is a protocol which allows instant messaging via Yahoo, MSN, etc. Mobjab is a free server that connects your handset with all these chat services. It acts as a bridge. The benefits of using the inbuilt client over using the external chat clients is effective and minimum data usage, its faster and low on your handset’s RAM.

Mobjab provides free connectivity with AIM/AOL, Gtalk, Yahoo, ICQ, Jabber-XMPP and MSN. To use the free service provided by Mobjab, all you need to do is to register with Mobjab and setup your multiple chat accounts.

Nokia 5800 works great with Mobjab and I have tested the connectivity successfully; however, the settings provided by the website are not all correct.

To setup Mobjab on your Nokia 5800, please follow the below instructions (after you have registered with Mobjab) –

Web Address : http://mobjab.mobi

Nokia 5800 App Review: Music Launcher

I have been searching for an alternative for the built in music player ever since I got my hands on my 5800. Not that the built in player has some nasty issues but I just want to get a feel of other players in the competition. So far there are very few players in the market and Music Launcher (still in it beta stage) is one of the free applications. After playing around with Music Launcher for around a day, am reverting back to the tried and tested buit in music player for all my music as of now. Lets see what makes me say that.

Default screen

Installation

Music Launcher v0.99(BETA) can be downloaded for free from the official website of MLauncher. Please note that this is just a BETA release and hence you can expect some bugs or random program crashes. I didnt experience any crashes during my usage though. Moving on let me a highlight a few features of mlauncher.

Interface

The interface is pretty basic with no fancy options. The default screen looks more like an explorer than a music player.

Nokia 5800 App Review: Palringo – A Multi Chat Client

scr000044

Palringo has been released for Nokia 5800. It is a wonderful chat client with connectivity to almost all popular chat services. It has connectivity with AOL Instant Messenger, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, Gadu-Gadu, ICQ, Jabber and Windows Live.

One of the major advantages of using Palringo is that you can also use Palringo to connect with friends using iChat, Apple’s IM application.

Palringo allows you to send pictures and voice messages. It is very low on your data consumption as compared to other IM clients. The look and feel of Palringo is really professional and state-of-the-art. The fact that it is completely free is amazing when you think of paid chat clients such as Slick, Agile etc.

I am really attracted to the user interface provided by Palringo. It defeats any other chat client that I have seen until now.

So, what are you waiting for, go on explore Palringo! Browse the following link in your mobile browser to download Palringo - www.palringo.mobi

Nokia’s next touchscreen to take cues from the iPhone

An online report suggests that a Q3 Nokia touchscreen will have a capacitive screen and may offer multi-touch functionality

Published on May 15, 2009

Nokia’s next touchscreen phone will use a capacitive screen and may offer multi-touch functionality, according to a report that’s surfaced on the web.

Apparently, Nokia will use Synaptics’ touchscreen IC solution in its upcoming Q3 handset. Since Synaptics doesn’t utilise resistive touchscreens, it pretty much definitively points towards the capacitive option.

In spite of the Nokia 5800’s huge success, the touchscreen is what most mobile users have criticised the handset for. Resistive screens require the use of a stylus for accurate pointing, while capacitive screens are much happier with a light finger tap. Both the 5800 and N97 feature resistive screens, so this move towards the other end of the spectrum, most famously inhabited by the iPhone, will be welcomed by most.

The continued use of capacitive screens is said to be a concession to the Asian market, where the ability to enter characters manually using the stylus is a must. With most Western users happier to tap away on a virtual keyboard, the drawbacks of the resistive option come to the fore.

As reported by Digitime
