Yeah, Skyfire-the only other mobile browser (other than symbian and microB), capable of rendering flash content on mobile devices is now available for symbian fifth edition device, still in 1.5beta though. We have been waiting to get our hands on this browser from our 5800s since long and the dawn of 2010 has finally bought this amazing browser to our dear Tube 5800s.

Nokia 5800 App Review: ShareMySlides – Open and view pdf/powerpoint documents for free

ShareMySlides is an online live presentation service which is currently running in the Beta test phase as such it is offering free service at the moment. I found it really interesting in the sense that you can upload all your documents (Only PDF and Powerpoint currently) on their website and view it on your mobile without a supporting application. What i mean is that to view the power-point or pdf documents that you upload, you don't need a Adobe Acrobat or Quick Office application installed on your Nokia 5800 to view them. There is a ShareMySlides application that can be used to see these documents on your phone which is absolute free at this time.

Snapfish is an online photo printing service by HP (Hewlett Packard) which is there for quite some time. It is available worldwide and allows you to print your pictures online at cheapest prices available. You can simply upload your pictures to your snapfish account or email them to your account and print them. They have a variety of options available for you to print your pictures. Yes, you heard it right, Nokia has offered free lifetime navigation on these compatible phone models - Nokia X6, Nokia N97 mini, E72, E55, E52, Nokia 6730 classic, Nokia 6710 Navigator, Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic, Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition, Nokia 5230. Nokia 5800 now has a free turn by turn navigation with voice and visual guidance across 70 countries. Of-course, this has come late but Nokia has finally kept our faith in it. Iphone was launched with free navigation and Google Maps already had a free version for Nokia 5800. With strict competition with other brands offering free navigation, this is a bold move from Nokia.

Not just the navigation, all the related features are free too, like free weather updates, free lonely planet and michelin guides. 2010 is all set to witness a new business strategy from Nokia. I would say that the latest firmware update and now free navigation are nice gifts for all the Nokia 5800 fans.
The new Nokia Ovi Maps with free navigation has an online mode toowhich allows you to get your location without downloading the maps on the go. It works somewhat like Google Maps. There is a bad news for all those Nokia 5800 owners who have still not updated to the firmware version 31.0.008 or higher. The new Ovi Maps is compatible only with the latest firmware v31.0.008 or higher.

It’s official – Nokia 5800 has a new firmware upgrade v40.0.005

I know i have been late at putting this up but the sole reason for this was to confirm the authenticity of this upgrade and test it myself. However, i have not been able to test it myself because the newfirmware is still not available on the Nokia servers for my region. I have it confirmed on the Nokia Update Finder that the upgrade does exist for my region and others too. Here is a list of all the products codes for Nokia 5800 which are eligible for this new upgrade.

With this new upgrade, we have a similar home screen like that of Nokia 5530. There is the much awaited kinetic scrolling but unfortunately not in the main menu, application menu and the browser which i feel are the main portions where we need kinetic scrolling. Anyways, it is better to have something than nothing at all. As we know with every upgrade, there is a significant touch response and overall performance improvements. Some of the phone menu icons have been changed. On the UI part, there are some additions which include new screen alarm, slide to unlock during call, new screen incoming call when the phone in locked. You also have an updated Real Player and Ovi Contacts installed. Another major change is the removal of the alphanumeric keypad in the landscape mode. Now on moving the phone, the portrait mode alphanumeric keypad changes to the full qwerty keypad.
This is a positive sign for all the Nokia 5800 users as this update has come after a very long time since the last one and proves that Nokia has not forgotten its first touch screen baby.

Nokia Software Updater released for Windows 7

Nokia Software Updater is a standalone application for updating Nokia 5800's device firmware. Updating phone's firmware adds some enhancements to phone's basic features, also improve the overall device performance apart from removing identified bugs from the previousfirmware.

Nokia Betalabs has launched the compatible version of Nokia Software Updater for Windows 7. It is still a release candidate and may contain bugs. However, this version of the updater has better USB connectivity with Windows 7.

The RC version of the Nokia Software Updater will not install any special pre-release firmware updates for your phone. It is the regular application which is now enhanced to support Windows 7. Some of the basic requirements for using this software is the availability of good internet bandwidth. Your phone should have a sim card when connected to the updater. Also, make sure to follow all the onscreen instructions.

What should be avoided while upating the firmware? Use the PC Suite mode when connecting the phone to the computer. Do not use any USB hubs for connecting the phone to the computer instead use the direct USB port of your computer.

The installation package is 23 MB in size and can be downloaded free of cost. The software installation is available in all the international languages - chinese, french, italian, german, portuguese, spanish, russian, polish, dutch, croatian, malay, etc.

We just got the BREAKING NEWS we all were dying to hear since long. Yeah, the much awaited Firmware Update v40 finally lands at our Nokia 5800. The update brings with it Kinetic Scrolling and a New Home Screen similar to 5530’s.

The update has just started rolling out and is not yet available in all parts of the world. Do check on your 5800 if its available for you via OTA (Over the Air) or NSU (Nokia Software Updater). When you read/hear Las Vegas, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? Casinos and the bubbly nightlife right? Well, the same Vegas has been doing the rounds on the web but for a totally different reason this time around, courtesy Consumer Electronics Show or CES 2010 which recently concluded in the US abode of casinos and yeah Nokia did have a device or two up its sleeves but that’s not what we are gonna talk about here. We were more than amazed by this little preview of a promising game from Nokia- Bounce Boing Battle, which is a welcome addition to the gaming scenario on 5800s.

The game which brings real time interactive multi-player gaming to 5800s will be available for free on the Ovi store soon and is the latest addition to Bounce series of games, which are pre-installed on every symbian fifth edition and maemo 5 devices. XpressCut: Cut songs on your S60 5th Edition device

XpressCut is a simple but powerful application to cut and save songs directly on your S60 5th Edition phone. Open XpressCut, select a song, set the start tag and the end. Once you pressed the save button it will create a new file and save the song. The quality of the new created file is good and can be send to your friends or can be used as a ringtone. Apparently, XpressCut is based on Phython and requires at least Python version 1.9.7. Install Python first and then XpressCut.

If you want uninstall multiple apps on a S60 device you can do it only one after the other, not several at once. This is without a doubt a pain and takes some time. With BatchUninstall, developed by Think Change, you can uninstall multiple application at once. You just need to select all apps you want to uninstall and click ‘Delete Selected’. Mobile Stream has recently came out with a top view racing game for Symbian 5th edition devices like Nokia N97, 5800, 5530 etc.
